Well I'm going to give you my long story so bare with me.
about 50-60 years ago, in a caribbean island lived my
grandfather. He was a MJ cultivater all his life. But he was
tired of the same Sativa strain weed. One day while feeding
his birds, he noticed the variety of seeds. He saw a
specific seed that looked very much like a MJ seed. so he
gathered about 10 of these seeds and planted them.
About 3 months after he was sure now that the seeds were of
cannabis. These trees were diferent though, the main "stalk"
at the top was all red and the rest of the tree was green.
He was later told by one of his buyers that that weed was
from Columbia!! He now was the only man in the carribbean
growing Columbian high grade sativa!! And I've smoked it
already {from his own crop} and trust me, it was worth the
energy of planting it. So yes, you should grow your "bird
seeds" you might unlock some hidden genetics.
Ha

hey there, i have heard alot about hemp/dope seeds in bird feed! As they hold many fatty acids etc etc for humans i guess the manufactureres thinks its a cheap *thing* to put into bird food as you can buy alot of it in bulk. What sorta bird food is it? Is it a specific brand, whered ya get it from n how much did it cost? sorry but im really interested when people bring up the subject bout hemp seed in bird food! Start to grow em, it'l be a good experience what ever they are! They may be rewarding/they may not be. Happy grow!

hi there.I am a first time grower of cannabis and i was told to practice germanation with bird seeds,so i went to tescos uk and got some trill canary bird seeds and when i got home and opened the box i found some cannabis seeds shit loads of them so i germanted 7 and planted them.they grew well fast and in two weeks i had to get rid of them as they were taking all my grow space up and my northen lights needed the room.Anyway they looked to me no diferent than my northen lights and they smelt real good to.I still have the box of seeds that cost me £1:29p and on my next grow i am going to plant 2 just to see if you can get high off them.If i do them seeds will be a right bargin.

all the best chris

I have grown Birdseed hemp...The plants were very high about 2m and very bushy...i grew em in my greenhouse...but they all turned out male...so you wont get high... but the plants were beautiful...if you are a first time grower you should try growing birdseed at firs...a dry run if you will...
Then again you never know you might stumble on some good genes.. :D

Good luck

i'm pretty sure that any bird seed made in the usa will contain only sterilized hemp seeds (mary-jew-wannah is dangerous after it crosses the american border)...sterilization isn't always effective tho

hemp seed is a common ingredient in bird seed

Since the seed itself has no THC, it is not illegal...

But, a lot of bird seed suppliers use either industrial hemp seeds (no THC content in the plants that result), or they use seeds that have been sterilized so they don't grow. Most US based companies use indistrial hemp or sterilzed seeds.

I guess there are companys that put plan old pot seeds in there too, probably companies that are not based in the US

I never tried it, but it sounds like a cool experiment

Could someone tell me if Hemp seeds look any different from Cannabis seeds? I bought a bag of Bird seed that had labeled that it contains hemp seeds. The only thing i found in my exploraiton of the 5 lbs of seed were these small round, Reddish seeds. They were the same size as Normal cannabis and even looked similar but were lacking the true shape of Cannabis.

P.S. If you would, could someone please tell me a brand of Bird seed that ACTUALLY has True hemp/Cannabis in it?

Geez, I wonder if any of youse guy's ever been in New York. No offense but Double-Duh! marijuana/hemp seeds have been able to be purchased BY THE POUND !LEGALLY(I Shit u knot)I've known this since the 70's.They can be purchased at most pet stores by the lb,1/2,1/4,Simply put,the hemp "seed" has been exempted when used as a birdseed additive,IT Improves a birds "sheen"(Glossy feathers)and have been available at local stores If you ask and tell them what it's for,(I breed racing pigeons,etc...) Yes they ARE suppossed to be steralized(Imagime your previous occupation when applying for unemployment)But "Who's To Say" if the "sterilization" occurs? Did the operator take a whizz, did the conveyer belt overspill,Did anyone actually PAY for it or just SAY they did? Sound familiar to the stock market maybe?I dunno about now,but Then, they were sterilized('course we tried)But that was then and this is Now!.Visit your local petshop, order it,It's not illegal when used for BIRDSEED and justly stated 'You wish to purchase 1/2lb of Marijuana seeds, yes of course its for my birds,Why did U think I wanted it?' It's cheap too, large seeds under 10.00$US a pound.TRy 1/4 lbs orders to start (pure mj seed!)I just might risk 2.50$ to find out if someone is Actually following procedure all the time or just claim they do,deducting "cost" to lower price/increase profit...it's been thirty years since anyone checked,Is there a Federal Bureau of Birdseed???ct/1/19/03

I´ve seen that there are very different opinions on these msgboards when it comes to this typical parrot seed cannabis thing. My experience tells me that you can find some sort of Hemp/cannabis seeds in most of the parrotand bird seed that is produced. When the manufacturer puts on the package info on the hemp seeds that are inside you can be 99% sure that they dont do anything for you to get high.
Also the bird seeds that are available in the USA are almost always sterilized or dont work in some way.

However, in Europe there are a few brands of seeds that you can use and they will produce plant with enough THC to rock your world. I´ve used those seed with fairly good result. I planted 50 seeds and got 15 females and 3 hermies (dont know where that came from). I´ve smoked both the buds and the leaves and I most surtenly wont complain on my behalf.

I´m sure there are gonna me some arguments to this statement but this is my experience and thats final.

ive got some hemp seeds from my mom. She eats them for the oil or something. anyways ive planted a few seeds, one has sprouted and is about 4 inches tall after 3 days now! dunno if itll be female or what. It wasnt from bird seed, and i live in the UK, so hopefully the plants might produce some THC like someone said earlier about European seeds. Who knows what genetics it has?!

LOL,
Hemp seed was used in bird food up until the mid 1930's here in the United States.
The bird seed variety of "Hemp" <all species of Cannabis contain Hemp fibers. That is Hemp, from all Cannabis.> The European variety was the most commonly used. Genetics made that change centuries ago. To spread across the Mongol Steepes into Russia. It was taller and thus more suited to outgrow the native grasses and also drw birds to help in its distribution. The CBD contained in this variety was akin to Hops. The family and pollen are very similar. Insuring Cannabis'survival.Every one know Russian hemp will give u a headache.

Not only bird see but a wildlife draw is what a stand of "hemp provides" The natural lure of the seeds brings in rabbit and squirrel as well as fowl. Having a stand of hemp on your land meant u never had to worry about what was for dinner. Turkeys love it especially. Any wonder why our National bird in America was almost 1? The Governor of Virgina included these findings in his Manuscript Good Husbandry Of The Land. circa 1700's early. The type used was Industrial hemp the larger variety as it provided a better fodder, not only for that reason, but the oils processed were usefull in everyday household items. Lighting and cooking, oil for machinery and heating as well.
So in short The C Sativa via Europe is the best type for bird food.
